Portrait of a Pretty Woman

10 x 14 Oil on Canvas

First attempt at a portrait from photographs. Photo's that
were posed by the subject for the portrait and taken by me.

The photo's worked out well and were good to work from.
I've still more work to do on seeing values and reading them
correctly as well as color mixing ..etc....

But I believe this is a likeness and I find that's not
the simplest thing to acheive. More importantly the subject
was pleased with the result and so was the artist.

PoolShot

6 x 8 Oil on Canvas Board

This weeks painting. I had a source photo of a guy
getting ready to take a pool shot.
This is my version of a piece of it. Specifically, his arm.
After doing last weeks painting on gessoed masonite, I
believe I prefer that as a ground. I think I'll try the next
painting using prepared masonite again.

Found a number of public domain photo's online in Library of Congress.
Used several as background sources for various elements.
Figures worked out in a pencil sketch and then painted.

2nd submission to the weekly painting challenge ( well, I see it as a challenge - to paint a subject I don't actually choose or arrange...etc ) at Karin Jurick's blog DifferentStrokesfromDifferentFolks.com. You can check out the source photo that is posted on K. Juricks site here

50's Diner

8 x 10 Canvas Panel

The Diner still exists but I can't say my representation does it justice. I do recall that the coffee was good.

Saw a photograph of an Ethiopian priest, this tries to reproduce that facial expression. Think I almost got it.
